Things i makeA few pieces made on, or have that been inspired by the moor.
Carving, art, useful things etc. I'm a collector of interesting found objects, stone and wood and have spent 20 years involved in tree work so have a wonderful selection of dried timber and branches from aesthetic and historic trees ive dealt with. A sycamore from the Brontë parsonage, Haworth, fruit trees from Rowntree Mackintosh, York, fiery wild cherry dark hearted laburnum. |
Preserved wood from roof beam of Top Withens, Haworth
Unfortunately the last roof beam is almost gone, decaying on the floor of the old building. This piece had been broken off when i arrived one day and so rather than seen it thrown as a dog toy or lost without notice, ive been preserving it in linseed oil and beeswax, occasional using small pieces in my art.
Unique pieces carved from felled trees at the Brontë Parsonage, Haworth
In 2018 an old Sycamore tree that had become dangerous had to be felled at the Bronte Parsonage and St Michaels church in Haworth.
I was fortunate enough to be given permission to remove the wood which has been drying slowly in my workshop ever since. These are just a couple of pieces ive made to sell and as gifts.

Hares head walking stick
Oak head, Ash shaft, Eyes inlaid wood from the roof beam rescued from Top Withens, Ochre pigment made from bog Iron collected at Benty hole, next to Top Withens and a brass ferrule.
I've engraved a moon motif and also the clients initials using Emily Brontë's handwriting. Down the shaft ive engraved one of her Emilys "I'll walk where my own nature would be leading" all engraving is then filled with the ochre pigment. |
Pagan moon calendar
Each year i make one of these to help keep me in step with the natural cycle of the year using the phases of the moon as markers. Every line is the beginning of a lunar month and starts with the new moon. The full moons follow a central line down the calendar. Ive kept the months and dates so as not to get too confusing and have included the main pagan observances marked with symbols. https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/nuumuun |
Meditation and yoga
i Love to do my meditation and yoga up on the moors and among my favourite things to make are tools, gadgets and paraphernalia that assist me.
This is a Seiza, or meditation stool. Each one is built to the individual body size and designed to compliment the natural sitting/kneeling position. The image on the left shows chakras which have been measured using the wooden lotus petals.
Please get in touch if you'd like one making. Cost is around around £100 to £150 depending on the type of wood used.
