Branwell had alreday painted the portrait of William THOMPSON, the first Secretary of YORK LODGE No. 236 on his masonic apron. Thompson was a prominent whip maker in York during the 18th C and was a founding member of the original lodge. Branwell was involved with the brotherhood and seems to have been instrumental in seeting up the new lodge at Duncombe place.
